Movie Trailer Obsession: Godzilla

godzilla2014_poster2Once again, I have come across a trailer that makes me so giddy and filled with joy and excitement – I simply must share it with everyone. I have one word for you all: Godzilla. Yes, you read that right. The great creature is back in an all new film adaptation. Sounds a bit silly, right? Wrong, dead wrong. The new flick looks brilliant – read on for more information and get a look at the trailer after the jump.

When I first heard about the new Godzilla movie, I was in disbelief. I could not understand why a director would want to remake a film that has struck out so many times before. Don’t get me wrong, I enjoy Roland Emmerich‘s 1998 version starring Matthew Broderick, but it is by no means a classic or even a good film. It’s campy and silly. There’s nothing wrong with that, it’s just so much more was expected out of it.

However, this new Godzilla, set to hit theaters May 16th, looks totally awesome. It looks as though all my hopes for the ’98 version are about to come true in 2014.

Not only does the film star the great Bryan Cranston (of Breaking Bad fame), but breakout actors Aaron Taylor-Johnson (Kick-Ass) and Elizabeth Olsen (Martha Marcy May Marlene) as well. This mix of in demand actors reflects how big of a film this Godzilla is going to be. I could continue on about how fantastic this cast is and what this means for the film, but I think you get the point.

While the cast is superb, it’s obvious from the latest trailer that the effects are going to be killer. With a film as big of a beast as Godzilla, you’ve got to have mind-blowing special effects, the bare minimum just isn’t good enough. It’s clear from the trailer that production is going all-out for this remake. And thank goodness, we don’t need another sloppy monster film on our hands.

I am so completely stoked for this new Godzilla, I am probably going to continue to rewatch this trailer until it’s May 16th. Check out the trailer below to get yourself pumped for this soon-to-be summer smash.
